WordPress Update: Google’s SiteKit crashing websites across internet

Google’s once essential SiteKit, popular plugin for WordPress websites, has crashed this week taking down thousands of websites and making them inaccessible to their owners.

Owners who try to access the site will be directed by email to go into “Recovery Mode” and you should immediately deactivate the Google SiteKit plugin. Once that is accomplished, you can reaches your website and update it.

The failure of the SiteKit plugin is surprising because Google normally has the technical staff to manage its offerings. But in this case, combined with being overloaded by Coronavirus quarantines and infections, staffing is working from home and response time is delayed by weeks.

When you try to access your disabled website, you will be sent an email that will permit the site owner to access the website in “Recovery Mode.”

But until the plugin is disabled, the site will be invisible to the public.

Once the plugin is disabled, the site will be restored and you can review other plugins and services.

It’s pretty shocking that Google would allow this plugin to crash thousands of sites without any word from Google. It was WordPress that notified me when I tried to access one of my websites using SiteKit.

Another example of how Google is collapsing and its services are weakening. Growing too quickly, Google has lost sight of what it’s original responsibilities are supposed to be.
