Podcast co-hosts debate whether Democrats should impeach Trump
Former Congressman Bill Lipinski and political columnist Ray Hanania predicted that Democrats will face a challenge on how hard to investigate President Donald Trump and his administration without risking losing the presidential election in 2028.
In a taping of the “Two Guys on Politics” video podcast broadcast on YouTube and on Spotify on Nov. 6, 2026, Lipinski argued that the Democrats should not impeach Trump and should instead focus on solutions to the nation’s problems, while Hanania argued that Americans deserve to know the truth in terms of the abuse and misconduct by Trump and his administration.
Both agreed that the poor track record of the Trump administration and the leadership problems that continue to exist in the Democratic Party make it impossible to predict who might surface from both parties as presidential candidates in 2028.
“I have been a very big fan of Marco Rubio, but I also said that he had to get out of the Trump administration, and I frankly think he stayed too long. I think even if he gets out now, it is not going to help him in any presidential campaign,” Lipinski said.

“Frankly, I have not as of yet come up with anyone on the Republican side or the Democratic side who I think would be a good candidate. I believe we need a reasonable, rational, moderate person to run for president on the Republican side and the Democratic side because we have to bring this country together. This campaign season certainly didn’t bring us together.”
Hanania said he believed that Rubio’s chances to run a strong presidential candidacy has been harmed by his support of Trump’s shift away from Ukraine to support Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Both agreed that America would be in a continued stall with the Democratic Majority unable to push through legislation in the face with President Trump’s ability to block them with his veto.
“Unless the Democrats can get some Republicans, you know, to side with them on legislation, on investigations, and possibly, you know, impeachment. But as I say, I wouldn’t go the impeachment route because I don’t think you’re going to be able to do it,” Lipinski said.
Hanania said that Rubio has been significantly harmed by Trump’s shift in support of Putin over Ukraine and Western Europe.
Lipinski said that the Democrat Party takeover of the U.S. Senate by such a large margin showed that Americans didn’t believe Trump’s repeated claims that the economy was strong, that gasoline prices would go down, and that his policies have strengthened the United States.
“I think that’s what it was. It’s a rejection of his personality. It’s a rejection of many of the positions that he took. I think the high gas prices, the high grocery prices stem from his tariffs, and stem from the war. Once again, we got ourselves involved in a war in the Middle East that we don’t know how to end,” Lipinski said.
“We should have learned by now that if you’re gonna get involved in a war, no matter where it is, you must know what the end game is going to be. And we certainly haven’t done it. We still don’t know where we are at with that war. I mean, we could continue to blockade. Maybe the Iranians would finally capitulate. I seriously question that. We could get ourselves more involved in bombing them more, but I don’t think that’s gonna do it.”
Hanania argued that a part of the challenges facing the ability of Democrats to exploit their takleover of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House is their need to replace both Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries.
“I think the Democrats should get their house in order. I, and I believe that they need new leadership because Trump is in office because I think the Democrats have failed. Failed under Biden, failed under Kamala Harris, failed under Chuck Schumer, failed under Hakeem Jeffries. I think they’ve done a terrible job of bringing the Democratic Party together. And I, it was a, this turnout of Dem- of votes I don’t think was really a Democratic blue wave, it was an anti-red wave against Trump,” Hanania said.
“Democrats need to investigate some of Trump’s cabinet members. Robert F. Kennedy should not be in charge of our health. He should be thrown out of office. Pete Hegseth, he should not be secretary of war.”
Lipinski said he believes that might be a mistake.
“The Democrats have to put forth legislation that is going to get the economic problems off of the backs of the American people, if at all possible. I think that they should start with trying to do something about healthcare in this country because it’s out of control, and too many people now have less healthcare than they had five years ago or 10 years ago,” Lipinski said.
“That is a terrible mistake. I think that’s one thing they should go after. There’s a number of other things that they should go after also, but I do not believe they should go after Trump or his family until he’s out of office.”
Hanania said that if Democrats fail to strengthen their leadership, win over support from some Republicans, they won’t be able to correct the many problems that Trump has created.
“Democrats need better leadership, and I think that Schumer should retire. He can claim the victory. The same with Hakeem Jeffries. But Democrats need better leaders, centrist leaders who can bring the two sides of the Democratic Party together and move forward,” Hanania said.
“Two years from now, if Democrats don’t do that, they are never going to improve our economy. Democrats will be blamed, and a Republican could step in and say, ‘Hey, the Democrats took over, and it’s their problem now. You (Democrats) didn’t do anything,’ and use that to restore Republican and MAGA control.”
