Vietnam Veteran Steve Desmond Announces Run for Palos Park Mayor
Longtime resident and retired PwC partner calls for safer roads, quieter neighborhoods and responsive government, announces candidacy for Pal0s Park Mayor in 2027
PALOS PARK, Ill. — Steve Desmond, a longtime Palos Park resident, retired PricewaterhouseCoopers partner and CPA, and Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam, is running for mayor in the April 2027 election.
“Maria and I raised our family here. Speeding and excessive vehicle noise brought me into this race,” Desmond said. “I want safer roads, quieter neighborhoods and a Village government that listens and follows through.”
“Residents have raised concerns about speeding, excessive vehicle noise and dangerous driving, but the mayor’s response has fallen short,” Desmond said. “Residents deserve better. As mayor, I will make road safety a clear priority and report regularly on what we are doing and the results.”
His local service includes work as Palos Park Library Treasurer and service on the Recreation Committee and Police Pension Board.

Desmond calls his road safety approach a “Full Court Press”: sustained enforcement, practical road improvements and public progress reports. He proposes working with the Police Chief and Village Council to focus resources where problems occur, support officers, coordinate with neighboring communities and press the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for improvements on state roads. He also supports stronger local vehicle-noise penalties, subject to legal review and Council approval.
“I appreciate the work our police officers do,” Desmond said. “We should build on existing efforts, strengthen what falls short and give officers the support they need.”
His broader platform calls for prompt responses to resident concerns, clear accountability in Village government and careful spending, realistic budgets and clear explanations of costs and benefits.
“Safety is my starting point. Your other concerns matter too,” Desmond said. “I will ask direct questions, watch the spending and stay with problems until residents get answers.”
Desmond is running independently, without a slate, and is self-funding his campaign without soliciting or accepting outside donations.
With Veterans Day approaching, Desmond is available for interviews about his military service, local experience and reasons for seeking office.
