Tasneem Abuzir can bring sanity and services back to Palos Township

By Ray Hanania

When I think about a smart, reasoned and honest person running for public office for the first time, I think immediately of a young woman named Tasneem Abuzir.

Abuzir is running for a spot on the Palos Township Board of Trustees in the April 6, 2021 elections.

The extremists in Palos Township — well, I should say the extremists who don’t live in Palos Township but who want to control it — are doing everything they can to stop her. When Tasneem announced her run for office last year, the extremists were distracted from their fanaticism and decided to slate another Arab American woman to challenge her.

The candidate they backed wasn’t there to help strengthen services in Palos Township but rather to do what extremists always do, destroy everything to prevent someone who is not from their small circle of fanatics from winning office.

Tasneem Abuzir announced because she wants to make a difference. She is backed by the the Palos Township bi-partisan slate of candidates which includes:

Colleen Grant Schumann, who is running for re-election as Township Supervisor; Jane A. Nolan, who is running for re-election as Township Clerk; Robert Maloney who is running for re-election as Township Assessor;  Gene Adams, who is running for re-election as Township Highway Commissioner; Brent Woods, who is running for re-election as Township Supervisor and who also serves as President Pro-Term; Richard C. Riley (Chris), who is running for re-election as Township Trustee; and Pamela M. Jeanes, who is running for Township Trustee.

====================

Tasneem Abuzir is a smart moderate who will
bring the moderate Arab American and Muslim community
into Palos Township government to help do good for all of the
township’s homeowners, not pander to the politics of outsiders
who profit in hate and anger activism

====================

Palos Township has had problems over the past few years, mainly involving political issues that have nothing to do with how the township operates. The Township’s primary goal is to provide services to the homeowners in Palos Township. Extremist groups, led by activists from Chicago and Orland Park, have tried their best to disrupt the board meetings and fuel the flames of hatred through protests, obstructionism and personal attacks.

They have the backing of self-serving former candidates for public office who have used their family ties to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to prevent Marie Newman from winning the race for Congress in the 3rd District. They failed embarrassingly and that must sting, fueling their name calling and lies. Imagine spending nearly $800,000 in an election and only winning 6,000 out of 125,000 votes. That kind of rejection has to hurt the ego, as well as ensure that they will never be taken seriously as a candidate again. So they resort to name calling and lies because they can’t address the issues. Pretty pathetic.

Tasneem is above all that. She has experience as a journalist covering the Arab American community. Rather than engage in the name calling of some activists, or the programs that are driven by anger rather than positive motivation, Tasneem has worked hard to present the true positive face of the Arab American community in the Southwest Suburbs writing and reporting for Hyatt Magazine. Arab Americans have served in the military to defend this country, they pay their taxes, operate businesses, work in all fields including as doctors, nurses, engineers, and even grocery stores and small businesses.

Her election to the Palos Township board will help to bring sanity back to the board meetings and allow the board to focus on its true agenda of providing services to families, the disabled, to senior citizens, to those who are hungry, to those who need help with their taxes.

Make sure to vote for Tasneem Abuzir and her slate.

They need your help to shut down the extremist voices of anger, hatred and divisiveness.
