Emphasizing the need to restore professional integrity to the office, O’Brien stated “Kim Foxx for the last three years has pledged to ‘rebuild public trust in the State’s Attorney’s office, the only way that can happen is if voters elect a new State’s Attorney.”

Elaborating on Foxx’s lack of fitness to serve, O’Brien continued, “She lacks integrity, experience, and sound judgement. She is a cog in the Preckwinkle political machine. These deficiencies were exhibited in her handling of the Smollett case. However, that case is the tip of a titanic iceberg,” stated O’Brien.

Citing numerous examples of Foxx’s poor record in office, including arbitrary determinations regarding criminal prosecutions, failure to bring cases, including high-profile murder cases, to trial in a speedy fashion, Pat commented, “our community cannot thrive where criminals are free, and the citizens sit prisoner in their homes. I promise to change that.”

Pat has twice worked in the Cook County State’s Attorney Office for both Republican and Democratic State’s Attorneys. During Pat’s 13 years of service in the State’s Attorney Office, he largely focused on criminal law, trying hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases and arguing before the Appellate Court.

As a result of his dedication to serving justice, Pat was appointed to supervisory positions of increasing responsibility in the Felony Review Unit, Felony Trial Supervisor; Bureau Chief of the Criminal Division; and finally, Chief Deputy, accountable for over 700 Assistant Attorneys handling criminal cases in Cook County.

Between Pat’s two terms of service in the State’s Attorney Office, he spent 5 years in the Illinois Attorney General’s Office travelling the state to assist other State’s Attorney Offices trying major criminal cases, and in 2006, was elected as a Judge of the Cook County Circuit Court, where he presided for 8 years until resigning in 2015.   

Pat O’Brien was born and raised in Chicago, where he attended St. Ignatius H.S. Upon receiving his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, Pat returned home to attend DePaul University College of Law. Pat became a licensed attorney in the State of Illinois in 1975, and has practiced continually since, working in both the public and private sector.
