Suspect arrested in theft of vehicle with toddler in backseat
Cicero Police investigators identified Edward N. Busse as the suspect who allegedly stole a Jeep Cherokee that was parked Monday night in front of Al’s Italian Restaurant and that had a toddler strapped into a car seat on the back seat.
Busse, 33, of 4100 W. 31st Street, was charged with Motor Vehicle Theft and with Endangering the Life of a child.
Cicero police on Tuesday filed charges against Tania H. Madrigal, 30, of 3999 Parrish Avenue of East Chicago, Indiana, for leaing her child in her running vehicle while she went inside of the restaurant to pick up a pizza to bring home for dinner.
Busse allegedly stole the vehicle after he saw it running in the parking spot in front of the restaurant at 6050 W. Cermak Road (22nd Street) Monday night around 4:30 pm
Police said that Busse drove the car to a nearby alley a few blocks from the restaurant where he abandoned the vehicle after realizing the baby was in the back seat. The baby was recovered unharmed.
A vigilant neighbor noticed the vehicle running in the alley and after seeing the baby strapped in the back seat by itself with no adult, motorist or driver in the area, called 9/11.
The charges filed against Ms. Madrigal include Endangering the Life/Health of a Child. Ms. Madrigal was also wanted on an outstanding warrant from Oak Lawn for a Bond Forfeiture Warrant for DUI, police officials said.
Busse was apprehended late Tuesday night and was processed and charged today (Wednesday, July 19, 2017).
