It’s Nick Uniejewski, and I’m running for State Senate on the North Side of Chicago in Illinois’ 6th District. I’m proud to announce that former Congresswoman Marie Newman has endorsed our campaign.

Marie knows me well—I knocked doors for her first run in 2018, helped secure her 2020 victory, and managed her 2022 campaign. She’s seen firsthand how I organize, fight, and show up.

Now she’s passing the torch and standing with us against a 30-year incumbent who has never faced a real challenger.

I got my start in politics when Donald Trump was elected in 2016. That moment lit a fire in me—and I found my home in Marie’s campaign, where we took on an anti-choice, anti-LGBTQ, anti-immigrant Democrat in the primary and won. With grit, determination, and grassroots organizing, we proved that no entrenched incumbent is too powerful to be defeated.

But let’s be honest: Democrats today have the worst approval ratings in years. And it’s not hard to see why. For nearly a decade, the party has focused on dunking on Trump—and trust me, I hate him too—but that’s not a vision for the future. We have to get back to our roots and listen to people, then fight harder for the future we deserve.

While Trump and his Republican allies are tearing down our democracy, too many Democrats are stuck protecting the status quo, refusing to do a damn thing to fight back, and failing to offer people a real plan for what comes next.

That’s the difference in this race. My opponent has been in office for 30 years without ever facing a serious challenger. In that time, she’s taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporate PACs, Big Pharma, and special interests. She’s absent when our neighborhoods need her most. And in Springfield, she’s not passing the bold legislation we need.

I’m running to reject the status quo. I’ve pledged to take no corporate PAC money—ever. Our campaign is 100% fueled by grassroots supporters like you. And I’m a new kind of Democrat—one who doesn’t just rail against Trump, but actually lays out a plan for the future. That includes:

🏠 Building more housing so people can afford to stay in the neighborhoods they love.
🚇 Modernizing and fully funding public transit so it works for everyone.
✊ Making state government work for people through ranked choice voting, ending corporate money in politics, and designing a government more accessible and open—not just a system that protects the well-connected and wealthy few.

This campaign is about sending a signal: if Democrats want to earn the trust of voters again, we need leaders who show up, listen, and fight alongside their communities to build the future we all deserve.

But I can’t do this alone. I’m the progressive underdog in this race, and that means we rely entirely on grassroots supporters like you.
