Investigation leads to aggravated vehicular hijacking arrest
A Country Club Hills man on Tuesday (March 4, 2025) was charged with felony aggravated vehicular hijacking stemming from an incident that occurred in September in Tinley Park.
Police said Jamal Britton, 33, approached a 27-year-old man as he was leaving work Sept. 11 in the 18700 block of Ridgeland Avenue.
Britton brandished a handgun and demanded the man give him the keys to his car.
A struggle ensued, and Britton was able to grab the man’s key fob before pistol whipping him and entering the man’s 2012 Dodge Challenger. After realizing he’d grabbed the remote start and not the keys, Britton fled the scene without taking the Challenger.
In February, Tinley Park detectives were able to identify Britton as the offender through his social media accounts and determined he lived in the South Loop in Chicago.
Detectives contacted Chicago Police Department officers assigned to the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, who began an investigation into Britton’s whereabouts. The Chicago Police Department located and arrested Britton on March 3.
“This superb investigative follow-up and great cooperation by multiple law enforcement agencies led to the successful arrest of this offender,” Mayor Michael Glotz said. “Their efforts should be applauded and admired.”
“This was great police work by our detectives and shows just how dedicated and talented they are,” Police Chief Tom Tilton said. “Our streets are safer because of their efforts, and I thank them on behalf of the entire Tinley Park community.”
