Orland Fire District hosts Open House Saturday 11 AM to 2 PM with live emergency/life saving demonstrations

The Orland Fire Protection District will host its annual Open House on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 AM until 2 PM featuring live demonstrations in fighting fires and engaging in life-saving rescues.

The Open House is one of the most popular presentations of fire fighter emergency response in the state and includes live demonstrations at the Fire District’s Training Center at 10728 W. 163rd Place, in Orland Park.

Demonstrations include the Side-by-Side Burn which shows how effective sprinkler systems are in putting out fires. The Side-by-Side Burn features replicas of typical home front rooms, one with a sprinkler and one without.

Other demonstrations include Car Extraction scenarios, rescues from burning buildings, and also scuba diving rescues, all emergencies that have taken place during the past year.

The Fire District will also have on display its various fire vehicles from the Hook and Ladder trucks to ambulances. Attendees will be able to inspect the equipment used to save lives firsthand.

Activities are available for children to help them understand the importance of fire prevention and recognize dangerous fire scenarios. They can view and try on fire gear, see how the fire-robot works, and enjoy other games involving firefighting. There will also be instructions for children on how and when to call 911 and how the 911 emergency system saves lives.

Food and refreshments are available to the public free of charge.

Partner organizations and agencies will host  information tables including from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Project Fire Buddies, the Orland Fire Cadets, the Senior Advisory Council, the Orland Park Police Department which works in direct cooperation to save lives and respond to emergencies.

For more information, visit the Orland Fire Protection District’s website at OrlandFire.org.
