Orland Park opens recreational services as state modifies coronavirus restrictions

As Illinois’ modified stay-at-home takes effect, Recreation and Parks provides an update regarding programs and services

  • Tennis and Pickleball Courts Open For Singles Play
  • Frisbee Golf and Dog Park Open with Restrictions

Governor Pritzker’s modified stay-at-home order took effect May 1 and runs through the end of May. The modified stay-at-home order lifts some restrictions while maintaining others. For example, golf courses are permitted to reopen under safety guidelines provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and when ensuring that social distancing is followed.

As a result of this order, and Governor Pritzker’s newly released five phase ‘Restore Illinois’ plan, the Orland Park Recreation and Parks Department is providing the following update regarding programs and services.

  • Recreation and Parks programs and services are subject to change as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak and the changing phases of the ‘Restore Illinois’ plan.
  • Social distancing should be practiced at all times and face masks should be worn per the Governor’s Executive Order if the 6 feet needed for proper social distancing cannot be achieved.
  • Please adhere to all Centers for Disease Control guidelines when visiting these spaces. This includes practicing social distancing and not gathering in groups.
  • Wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly.

Parks, Trails, Fishing and Boating

Parks, trails, fishing and boating are open. We ask that users adhere to Centers for Disease Control guidelines when visiting these spaces. This includes practicing social distancing, not gathering in groups, and using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly. All playgrounds remain closed in compliance with the Governor’s mandate.

Disc Golf Course

Similar to golf course reopenings, the Village’s disc golf course located at Doogan Park is open.  Please follow the following guidelines:

  • Limit groups to two players
  • Spread out start times by 15-minute intervals
  • Avoid handshakes and high fives
  • Limit your contact with course equipment when teeing off and removing the disc from the target
  • Touch only your own discs, do not borrow discs
  • Observe social distancing of 6 feet
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly

Tennis/Pickleball

Tennis/Pickleball courts are open for singles use only (no doubles)

  • All players must have their own equipment including individual balls for serves.
  • Players should not touch opponent’s served balls, but return their opponent’s balls by use of racquet.
  • Observe social distancing of 6 feet
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly

Dog Park

The “DogOut” dog park located on the Centennial Park Campus is open.

  • This is a members-only park and all member restrictions remain in place.
  • Observe social distancing of 6 feet
  • Dog owners should wear a face covering when 6 foot distance cannot be maintained.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly

Summer Guide

In the coming weeks, due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 outbreak and the changing phases of the ‘Restore Illinois’ plan, the 2020 Recreation and Parks Summer Guide will be made available in digital format only to allow for updates as the need arises.

Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC)

The Centennial Park Aquatic Center (CPAC) will open as soon as permitted by the ‘Restore Illinois’ plan phase and Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines.  More information regarding pool capacity and operating hours will be provided as it becomes available.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work through the details of the COVID-19 situation. It is at times like this that everyone needs parks and recreation more than ever, and we are working hard to get to that point as soon as safely possible.

Visit our website at www.orlandpark.org for the most up-to-date information regarding programs and services.
