Police searching for Hammond homicide suspects after vehicle chase, crash in Tinley Park
Tinley Park police responded Thursday night (Oct. 14, 2021) to the area of Ridgeland Avenue and 183rd Street to assist the Illinois State Police and the Posen Police Department in locating a vehicle occupied by suspects wanted in connection with an earlier shooting incident in Posen and a double homicide in Hammond, Ind.
At about 10 p.m., a Tinley Park officer spotted the suspected vehicle and began to pursue it northbound on Ridgeland Avenue.
In the ensuing chase, the vehicle crashed into the railroad tracks at Ridgeland Avenue and Oak Forest Avenue, and its occupants fled in different directions. Police were able to apprehend one of the feeling suspects.
Tinley police set up a perimeter and secured the area while waiting for other agencies to arrive and assist with the search for the remaining suspects.
Tinley Park Emergency Services also issued a CodeRED alert in a 1.5-mile radius of Oak Forest and Ridgeland avenues warning residents of the possible danger and to report any suspicious persons.
Illinois State Police arrived and assisted with coordinating the perimeter. The South Suburban Emergency Response Team and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Mutual Aid Response Team (ILEAS) were active and also arrived at the scene to help. The Cook County Sheriffs Police Hostage Barricade Unit also was active due to the size of the search area. Police also used bloodhounds in tracking the suspects.
Tinley Park police and dozens of agencies from state, county and local jurisdictions are still conducting a massive and comprehensive search, which will continue until they determine the subjects are no longer in the area or are taken into custody.
The Tinley Park Police Department is asking residents to continue to report any suspicious activity. Those with home security systems are asked to check any activity on their cameras throughout last evening and report anything suspicious by calling (708) 532-9111.
Residents are also encouraged to sign up for the Village’s CodeRED emergency notification system by visiting www.TinleyPark.org/StayInformed. CodeRED sends emergency alerts and critical information to Village staff, residents and businesses, as well as non-emergency information such as road closures and trash collection schedule changes.
