D230 students win prestigious art awards

Recently, 24 Consolidated High School District student artists competed against students from dozens of high schools in their Regional Scholastic Arts competitions.

Sandburg Eagles entered 43 individual works (drawings, photography, digital images, and paintings) and five portfolios for the regional competition, which adjudicated nearly 84 portfolios and 2246 individual works in total.

Nine Sandburg students won big, taking home an arm full of awards. Mathylda Dulian and Sarai Maya won Gold Keys. Mathylda Dulian, Lalia Hallom, Muhammed Hussein, Grayson Illsley, Sydney Schanz, Veronica Szarkowski and Annette Ziaja took home Silver Keys. And finally, Grayson Illsley and  Maram Makhlouf gained Honorable Mentions.

At Andrew High School, two students were recognized for their artwork. Nour Farache earned a Gold Key, while Dylan Young took home an Honorable Mention.

Gold Key works will now travel to New York City to compete once again. This time, they will be adjudicated nationally against all other Gold Key winners from throughout the United States.

Sandburg’s regional exhibition runs from January 29 – February 3, 2023 at Downers Grove North High School. The opening ceremony is scheduled for January 29 from 1:00-4:00pm.

Andrew students are in the Midwest Region and will be invited to the Belin-Blank Center Scholastic Celebration in Iowa, honoring award winners.
