Popular Orland Township Senior Drop-In Returns

Even frigid February temperatures could not keep Orland Township seniors away, as they happily entered the Orland Chateau for the Township’s popular senior drop-in, according to the office of Orland Township Supervisor Paul O’Grady.

Reconnecting with friends, playing cards, snacks and, of course, a long-awaited session of bingo, brought seniors to Orland Township’s first senior drop-in of 2021.

“Orland Township loves its seniors and we have missed them,” said Supervisor O’Grady. “We are happy to welcome everyone back and to be restarting our senior activities.”

Senior drop-in will be held on Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Orland Chateau, 14500 S. LaGrange Rd., through the end of April.

“Having drop-in at the Orland Chateau allows us to welcome more seniors while observing social distancing guidelines, than we would be able to accommodate in the Township’s activity center,” explained O’Grady. “We are very fortunate that Orland Chateau is available and willing to work with us for the next few months.”

Orland Township has also resumed several of its fitness classes, including the Arthritis Foundation class, Joints in Motion, Strong and Fit, and Tai Chi.
The current session of classes is also being held at the Orland Chateau, again, to allow for social distancing while welcoming back more participants than the Township’s activity center would be able to accommodate.

Orland Township had briefly resumed senior drop-in back in October, however, when Illinois’ COVID-19 numbers increased and stricter rules were again in place, the Township was forced to cancel drop-in and other activities a month later.

Following CDC guidelines, all attendees are required to wear masks and maintain proper social distance. During drop-in, tables will have seating for six individuals or less and will be spaced for social distancing.

Registration is required for drop-in and class sessions prior to attending. Senior residents interested in reserving a space at drop-in or signing up for any of the available fitness classes (fees apply) should call Orland Township at (708) 403-4222.
