Vanessa Uribe, 22nd Ward IPO Chairwoman gave the following statement: “The 22nd Ward IPO stands behind candidates that represent the interests of working families. As a progressive organization that for decades has promoted unity, women’s rights, and welcoming immigrant communities, we believe Marie Newman shares our values and are proud to endorse her for the 3rd Congressional district.”

Alderman George Cardenas gave the following statement: “Since 2003, I have dedicated my career to serving my community in Chicago’s 12th Ward. I look forward to partnering with someone like Marie Newman, who will truly put workers and working families first. Marie will be a welcome change and I trust her to fight for everyone on the SouthWest side.”

Alderman Scott Lennon gave the following statement: “I am proud and excited to announce my endorsement of Marie Newman for Congress. My mission has always been to keep Berwyn moving forward. Marie will be a Congresswoman who understands and aligns with that mission. Her support of Progressive values such as LGBTQ+ and women’s rights are important to myself and so many in Berwyn. I have also had several great conversations with her lately about getting federal funds to help improve Berwyn infrastructure. She brings a fresh energy and modern approach that we need in our next Representative.”

Newman, who came within 2,200 votes of unseating Congressman Dan Lipinski int he March 2018 Democratic Primary, is hoping to bridge that gap in the upcoming March 17, 2020 Democratic primary election. Two other candidates are in the Democratic race, Rush Darwish and Charles Hughes.
