PRESS RELEASE: Town Hall meeting in Orland Park Wednesday to address 3 NEW TIFS and impact on taxpayers, homeowners

Town Hall meeting will explain and identify issues with Orland Park’s current Triangle TIF and 3 New TIFs being considered by Village of Orland Park

Tom Tresser, a recognized authority on Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts will explain how 3 NEW TIFs planned by the Village of Orland Park will impact homeowner property taxes and redirect funding away from local schools at a meeting in Orland Park on Wednesday Oct. 30, 2024.

Tresser has been studying and detailing TIFs for public audiences for more than two decades and was invited to help homeowners in Orland Park understand the TIFs by educator Mohammed Jaber.

The Town Hall meeting is on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 ay Georgios Quality Inn Convention Center at 8800 W. 159th Street in Orland Park. The meeting is free and open to the public and begins at 6:30 PM.

“The TIF Town Hall is important to the community as it will have a significant possible affect on the taxpayers of Orland Park. We are talking about a possibility of a $2,000 tax increase something many homeowners can’t currently afford,” Jaber a long-time activist for education rights explains.

“This project might be needed to bring extra revenue but it shouldn’t be on the back of the taxpayers. TIFs are not common in this area but having 3 possible TIFs is unheard of and Tom Tresser who is an expert will explain all about TIFs at the Wednesday meeting on October 30.”

Jaber had urged that the TIF plans be suspended until the Village of Orland Park files two delinquent unfiled financial audits to help taxpayers better understand how the TIFs will impact their taxes and taxes on other governments including school districts.

“The sole purpose is to help educate homeowners and taxpayers, so they understand how these complicated TIF development projects impact our local property taxes,” Jaber said.

“Tom Tresser is singularly one of the region’s authorities on TIFs and his analysis that he has conducted will be very informative.”

Attend the Town Hall Meeting on the 3 NEW TIFs being considered by the Village of Orland Park Board.

Guest Speaker Tom Tresser, a TIF expert, will answer questions about Orland Park’s planned 3 NEW TIFs and the impact they will have on property taxes, and local governments including our schools.

  •         WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024
  •         TIME: 6:30 pm until 9 PM
  •         WHERE: Georgios Quality Inn Conference Center
  •         ADDRESS: 8810 W. 159th Street.
