Cicero President leads successful push to get FEMA to approve flood disaster assistance to residents

Town President Larry Dominick announced Tuesday, August 15, 2023 that Cicero residents can begin applying for Federal FEMA funding for damages caused by the July 2 floods.

The FEMA approval was announced by the White House on Tuesday afternoon and came as a result of a convincing case that was present to the Federal Government by the Town of Cicero and our local, regional and state officials.

“We were always sure we would get this designation as this rain storm was one of the worst we have faced. They described it as a one in 500 year storm. The Town was the first to contact our County, State and Federal government officials to join us in calling for a Federal Disaster designation and I am happy to announce it has come through,” said Town President Larry Dominick.

“Together, our voice and the massive program we launched to help our residents to complete property damage assessments helped make this designation possible. We will work with the community to help them as they apply for FEMA disaster assistance.”

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service.

“I want to thank all the officials who joined our call for FEMA assistance. Governor J.B. Pritzker. The Cicero Board of Trustees. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. Congressman Chuy Garcia. Metropolitan Water Reclamation District President Kari Steele. Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar, State Reps. Lisa Hernandez and Abdelnasser Rashid. Senators Mike Porfirio and Javier Loera Cervantes. Ted Berger, the director of Cook County Emergency Management and Regional Security, and Vince Acevez, Deputy Director of EMRS. I also want to give special thanks to the Red Cross and to Team Rubicon for their help,” Dominick said also thanking all of the members of the Town of Cicero Board, Department heads and employees who worked tireless to help residents.

“The people of the Town of Cicero are grateful for their supporting our call for the FEMA disaster declaration.”

Cicero collected nearly 7,000 Damage Assessment Forms from property owners, which were used to justify the FEMA decision, and will offer support to residents in submitting their information to FEMA.

Cicero, IL — El Presidente Municipal, Larry Dominick, anunció el martes que los residentes de Cicero pueden comenzar a solicitar fondos federales de FEMA para los daños causados por las inundaciones del 2 de julio.

La aprobación de FEMA fue anunciada por la Casa Blanca el martes por la tarde y fue el resultado de un caso convincente presentado al Gobierno Federal por el Municipio de Cicero y nuestros funcionarios locales, regionales y estatales.

“Siempre estuvimos seguros de que obtendríamos esta designación, ya que esta tormenta de lluvia fue una de las peores que hemos enfrentado. La describieron como una tormenta de una vez cada 500 años. El Municipio fue el primero en contactar a nuestros funcionarios del Condado, del Estado y del Gobierno Federal para unirse a nosotros en la solicitud de una designación de Desastre Federal, y me complace anunciar que se ha concretado”, dijo el Presidente Municipal, Larry Dominick.
