Bridgeview approves three ordinances

Auto repair shop to open in now-vacant building

By Steve Metsch

The Bridgeview Village Board, at its Nov. 1 meeting, approved three ordinances by unanimous vote.

The board approved a special use and parking variation to allow operation of an auto repair shop at 7100 S. Harlem Ave. Right now, that building, which had been used for truck repairs, stands vacant.

The ordinance reduces the minimum off-street parking spaces from 35 to 18, as recommended at the Oct. 11 of the village’s Zoning, Planning and Development Commission.

Ace Tires & Wheels, Inc., will be owned by Juan Aceves, according to the ordinance. If it is closed more than six consecutive months, the special permit is terminated. Vehicle sales will not be permitted on the site. Nor will body work or painting of vehicles.

The board approved re-subdividing property at 7810-12 West 73rd Street. The site is known as the Doug O’Brien Subdivision.

The board also approved a special use permit to allow operation of a used car dealership, including vehicle repair and a body shop, at 8251 S. Harlem Ave.

Village trustee Claudette Struzik said that this is not a new dealership in Bridgeview, which capped the number of used car dealers a few years ago.

“There’s a moratorium against any new ones. This one was in existence and the owner sold it to someone else. The zoning board allowed it because it’s not a new one,” she said.

Harlem Property Management is the new owner of the used car lot, according to the ordinance. The owners are listed as Khaldoon Shakir, Adnan Abdeh, Atif Abu Zarifa, and Ahmad Abdallah.

In other business, trustee Mary Sutton said a health fair held earlier Nov. 1 at at the Bridgeview Community Center “was very successful.”

For the second straight meeting, the appointment of an independent director of the Bridgeview Finance Corporation was tabled. Mayor Steve Landek said he’s interviewing candidates for the job.

The board’s next scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the village hall, 7500 S. Oketo Ave.
