Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar honors veterans at first of monthly VetConnect Workshops at district office
On Tuesday, August 26th, Commissioner Aguilar hosted the first of a monthly workshop for veteran support services at his district office.
The event connected veterans with multiple agencies and services, bringing these resources directly to 16th District veterans and their families.
Joining Commissioner Aguilar was the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County, Rincon Family Services, and Get Covered Illinois. Services veterans and their families could access included Veteran Affairs claims and benefit assistance, mortgage and rental assistance, utility assistance, internet and phone bill assistance, and more.
“In America, veterans volunteer to protect this country. When their tours are over, we must meet them where they are and make sure resources and support services are accessible,” said Commissioner Aguilar.
“I’d like to thank the VACCC, Rincon Family Services, and Get Covered Illinois for joining us. Most importantly, thank you to our veterans. We will continue to ensure that you and your family have access to the resources and support you deserve.”
This workshop was the first in a monthly series of veteran support events located at Commissioner Aguilar’s district office at 7833 Ogden Ave in Lyons, IL. These workshops will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with the next one scheduled for September 23rd.
“At the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County, Superintendent Elizabeth Soto has stated that our mission is simple yet vital: to ensure every Veteran and their family receives the benefits, services, and support they have rightfully earned. Through our VetConnect Office Hours Program, we are bringing that mission directly into the heart of Cook County’s communities,” said VACCC Communications and Outreach Manager Conner Intress.
“By embedding our team in local elected officials’ offices, public libraries, and neighborhood spaces, we remove barriers to access and meet Veterans where they are. The goal is to provide personalized guidance on benefits, emergency financial services, and resource navigation in real time, so no Veteran has to face the system alone. This initiative reflects our core commitment: Strategic, Targeted, and Responsive service to those who served.”
