Leading members of State’s Gun Violence Prevention Community endorse Robin Kelly for U.S. Senate
Many top leaders, advocates and champions of the state’s gun violence prevention movement today endorsed Robin Kelly for U.S. Senate.
The group has founded gun violence prevention organizations, raised their voices, told their stories and led with passion on ending senseless gun violence in our communities.
“Any Illinois voter who cares about curbing gun violence in our state should know that Robin Kelly is the only choice for the U.S. Senate,” said Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton, an activist who began the Wear Orange movement after losing her 15-year-old daughter Hadiya to gun violence.
“Robin has proven her leadership in Congress and is the only candidate who will continue championing lifesaving gun violence prevention legislation in the Senate.”
“I will always stand with the brave and committed leaders of the gun violence prevention movement in Illinois, and to know they stand with me is humbling,” Kelly said.
“I have learned so much from this courageous group and they can rest assured that introducing and passing commonsense gun violence prevention legislation in the Senate will remain a top priority.”

Kelly serves as the Vice Chair of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. She helped plan and led the 2022 House Gun Violence Sit-in with John Lewis that shut down the House floor to raise awareness of the gun violence epidemic in America. Kelly’s provisions on gun trafficking and community violence intervention were included in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
Kelly has introduced and passed through the House the Prevent Gun Trafficking Act and introduces the Wear Orange resolution every year to keep the issue of gun violence at the forefront of Congressional action.
Today’s endorsement of Robin Kelly for the U.S. Senate adds to other endorsements from members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC and nearly 70 members of the state’s LGBTQIA+ community.
