Two Guys on Politics podcast analyzes both sides of the Jan. 6 Insurrection

Former Illinois Congressman William O. Lipinski and former Chicago City Hall reporter and longtime political columnist Ray Hanania host the weekly Two Guys on Politics podcast, with their producer Brian Broeking.

Lipinski and Hanania take on the major news headlines each week and this week (June 16, 2022) focus on the US House Select Committee Hearings on the Jan. 6 Attacks. Hanania and Lipinski debate whether or not the protest was an “insurrection” or a partisan political bias caused by the growing divide between Republicans and Democrats.

Broeking, who provides segments reflecting the Youth Perspective on issues, leads a discussion in his closing segment on the steadily collapsing crypto currency such as Bitcoin.

On January 6, 2021, between 20,000 and 200,000 protestors who supported former President Donald Trump, protested against the election results demanding that allegations of vote fraud be taken seriously and investigated. About 900 of the protestors, however, turned to violence and stormed the Capitol Building resulting in the deaths of 9 people including some protestors.

Democrats called the protest an “insurrection” and accused Trump or directing the violence hoping to prevent former Vice President Mike Pence from certifying the election results. Republicans called the protest a “protest” that got out of hand and argue that every American has the right not only to their opinion but to protest against what they believe is injustice, even if the biased news media doesn’t agree.

Lipinski, Hanania and their producer Broeking discuss a wide range of topics and offer a “Reagan Democrat” approach to politics, what they call “the centrist position.” Reagan Democrats are conservative Democrats who reject the extremist Left but also reject the extremist Right.

Two Guys on Politics podcast is one of the only podcasts where the Centrist view is offered and where both the Left and the Right are judge objectively based on issues and not on partisan politics.

“There is not enough discussion and debate in the center of Americans political spectrum and one reason for that is that the country is polarized and so divided,” Hanania, an award winning columnist explained.

“Bill Lipinski and I try to look at both sides. We don’t like the trend today where the media seems to promote one political side and marginalize the other. That’s not true journalism. We believe the public is smart enough to come to their own conclusions when they can hear both sides of an issue. They don’t need a media or anyone telling them what to believe by only presenting one side of a major controversy. We also believe that more needs to be done to bring both sides back towards the center and narrow and eliminate the gap that separates Americans in such a polarized manner.”
