Chicago House AC’s Goal-Scoring Streak Comes To An End In The Final Road Match At Chattanooga FC

The House Is Unable To Convert On Multiple Chances As They Get Shut Out At Finley Stadium

Chicago House AC (5-2-8, 17pts) was not able to extend their goal-scoring streak in their final road match at Chattanooga FC (5-2-8, 17pts) as they got shutout 2-0 and saw their seven-match goal-scoring streak come to an end.

Rodolfo Sulia and Derek Huffman had the best chances for the House in the second half in a physical match but, in the end, came up short.

Early in the first half, the House had a free kick opportunity in the 3rd minute. Wojciech Wojcik took the free-kick and tried to lob his shot, but it sailed over the net. In the 10th minute, Chattanooga FC midfielder Damian Rodriguez dribbled past two House defenders in the 18-yard box and crossed the ball towards Brian Bement.

He blasted his shot past goalkeeper Mike Novotny, and Chattanooga FC took an early lead 1-0. The two sides keep pushing for scoring chances throughout the first half. In the 35th minute, Chattanooga FC could not clear the ball, and Derek Huffman ripped a shot towards Chattanooga FC goalkeeper Alec Redington, but his shot went wide to the left.

Later in the 42nd minute, the House had another free-kick opportunity, and Louis Bennett curved his shot towards Redington, but he managed to get a fingertip to the ball to keep it from going into the back of the net. At halftime, Chattanooga FC led 1-0 against the House.

In the 50th minute of the second half, Chattanooga FC attacked down on the left side of the field, and Markus Nagelstad was able to get a shot off, but Novotny saw it all the way and was able to make the save.

In the 65th minute, Chattanooga FC kept pushing for another goal and nearly got one when Alec McKinley flicked a shot from 22 yards as Novotny was off his line but was able to lean to his left and make an excellent save.

In the 67th minute, the House had a corner kick opportunity, and Louis Bennett crossed the ball into the box; defender Rodolfo Sulia snuck in for the header, but his shot went wide of the net. In the 78th minute, Musa Morris was able to get a through ball towards Derek Huffman, who took a close-range shot in the box, but his shot also went wide of the net. In the 88th minute, Brett Jones received an excellent pass from Richard Dixon into open space. Jones scored from an impossible angle into the corner of the net as he buried his shot past Novotny to seal the match for Chattanooga FC and beat the House 2-0.

After the match, Head Coach and Technical Director, C.J. Brown gave his perspective on his team’s performance.

“I think it was a game where we came out flat,” said Coach Brown.

“We didn’t have a lot of energy, and they [Chattanooga FC] did everything we expected them to do. I think throughout the whole game we didn’t show the energy, and we didn’t deliver the quality we’ve been playing in many games. It was a 1-0 game, and we gave up a second, and that goal bothers me more than the game. I didn’t feel that we were putting in the best effort we should have towards the end of the game, and that’s the part I’m more disappointed with. Chattanooga FC had a really good game plan, and they stuck with it.”

Coach Brown wants his team to put this match behind them and keep the players focused on their next match against the LA Force on Saturday.

“We throw this one out the door and move on to the next match,” said Coach Brown.

“It’s a different type of team, so we have to get out of the mindset of the direct long ball. LA Force does have a big forward, but this team will try to play through the lines and move us around. We got to get our legs under us these next few days and get out and be ready to play against a really good team.”

With this result, Chicago House AC moved back down to 9th place in the 2021 NISA fall table while Chattanooga FC moved up to 8th place and are ahead of the House on goal differential as both teams are tied with 17 points.

On Saturday, November 6, the House returns home to SeatGeek Stadium to take on the LA Force at 7:30 pm CST.
