La Crepe Bistro offers genuine French cuisine in Southwest suburbs

If you are looking for a great French restaurant and that authentic French experience, you don’t have to look further than La Crepe Bistro in Homer Glen. The menu is exquisite and the food is authentic. No one replicates the French cafe aura better than La Crepe Bistro with its outdoor patio and beautifully French designed restaurant interior

By Ray Hanania

If you want great tasting and authentic French cuisine, there is only one place to go in the Southwest Suburbs of Chicagoland, La Crepe Bistro in Homer Glen.

The little restaurant not only serves up great tasting food but it also replicates the atmosphere of a French Cafe. You don’t need to be a Francophile to appreciate how important that is.

Too many restaurants claim to offer French menus but for most of the the environment is really more like a Maxwell Street bazaar with all kinds of mixed foods, and very little French cuisine.

Just placing red and blue decorations, the colors of the French flag, does not make you French.

What makes you French is the commitment to French culture and cuisine. The French are famous for their food and for their “Je ne sais quoi,” a quality that cannot be fully described but you know it is there.

La Crepe Bistro at 13957 Bell Road is about as French as anything can get outside of France itself. And even more important, the food is so genuine and phenomenal.

They have a small patio in front of the restaurant if you feel strongly about not being inside. It looks like a street cafe you might find along the Avene de Champs-Élysées. And the waitresses not only dress in beautiful French fashion — nothing disrespectful. They had a beautiful black dress with a clear mesh back with the embroidered image of the Eiffel Tower. The attention to detail is amazing. The outdoor patio tables are solid, with beautiful covers with a French accent. Even the napkin is a thick French designed cotton fabric. Fresh flowers and a miniature Eiffel Tower in the patio center. Even the plates have a French design.

Inside, the restaurant is like being at one of Paris’ best restaurants, with tables spaced far enough apart to add comfort to anyone concerned about Coronavirus. All the staff and wait staff wear face masks.

But like I said, in addition to the ambiance of a French cultural setting, the food must rise up to the level to make it perfect and it does at La Crepe Bistro.

The menu offers an array of French specialty foods. My all time favorite is the roast Duck and so far no one in Chicagoland does it better. The Duck a L’orange, partially boned, oven roasted half duck is served with baked apples, prunes, apricots and orange sauce and is under $30. Wow!

Everything on the menu is great and all French. Here’s the main entrees from the menu. Tell me this restaurant isn’t French:

The appetizers and the side dishes are great too. The L’escargot Magnifique, consisting of six Extra large Burgundy snails baked with garlic butter and served in shell is excellent. They give you the proper utensils to take the snail out of the shell and put it in the hot buttered garlic sauce in the special plate. With the biscuit, it is so tasty.

The restaurant also offers a wide variety of crepes.

This is going to be my new hangout. You want to meet me and pitch a story, make sure to meet me at the La Crepe Bistro, Je serai là (I’ll be there).
