Just the News reported on Feb. 21, 2026 that Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, “the Illinois official whose agency issued potentially thousands of illegal licenses to truckers, received more than $300,000 in donations from the trucking industry in recent years.”

You can read the “Just the News” report by clicking this link.

It continues in the shocking story reporting Giannoulias “is in a standoff with the Trump Transportation Department over its review of the state’s commercial drivers licenses (CDLs) which found that 1-in-5 licenses issued by Giannoulias’ office were done so illegally. “

Giannoulias is expected to announce his candidacy for Mayor of Chicago next year, despite a long history of criticism.

News Nation reported on Feb. 19, 2026, that “The Trump administration is threatening to withhold millions of federal funding from Illinois over commercial driver’s licenses.” Click here to read the News Nation report.

Wikipedia Bio of Alexi Giannoulias:

“Alexander Giannoulias is an American–Greek politician who has been serving as the Secretary of State of Illinois since January 2023. He previously served as the 72nd treasurer of Illinois from 2007 to 2011,” Wikipedia profile.

Wikipedia continues:

“A Democrat, Giannoulias defeated Republican State Senator Christine Radogno with 54 percent of the vote in the November 2006 election for Illinois Treasurer. He became the first Democrat to hold the office of Illinois Treasurer in 12 years. Giannoulias was a candidate for U.S. Senate in the 2010 elections. He won the Democratic primary, but narrowly lost the general election in November 2010 to Republican Mark Kirk. On June 26, 2018, he was confirmed to the Chicago Public Library Board, marking his first return to public service since leaving the Treasurer’s office.

“Giannoulias was elected secretary of state in the 2022 election, defeating Dan Brady to succeed longtime incumbent Jesse White.”
