Quick Orland Fire response prevents Marshall’s fire from spreading, no injuries
Orland Park, IL – The fast response of Orland Fire Protection District firefighters helped to quickly extinguish a fire at a popular big box retailer, Marshalls Department store on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The fire was reported at approximately 12 noon at the store’s loading dock located in the Orland Park Place Mall at 101 Orland Park Place, near 153rd and LaGrange Road.
On arrival, OFPD crews found a fire located in the loading dock that was contained to the exterior loading dock area, Interim Fire Chief John Purtill said.
Firefighters quickly evacuated the big box retailer’s building and extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to the area of origin.
Purtill said that the Orland Fire District was assisted by firefighters from the Palos Fire Protection District, and from the Tinley Park Fire Department.
“We are grateful to the support we received from neighboring Fire Departments and are very proud of the fast emergency response of our firefighters, which prevented this fire from growing and causing more damage and threatening customers,” Purtill said.
“It was discovered by Orland Fire crews who were responding to another call. The crews saw the smoke and diverted to the fire arriving about the same time the 911 calls were being received by Dispatch.”
There were no injuries. With the fire damage restricted to the loading dock outside of the store, Marshalls remains open to the public.
