Egyptian Flag to be raised in Celebration of Egypt’s Independence by America’s only Egyptian American Mayor Mary Basta
The vibrant community of Bolingbrook is set to witness a historic moment as Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, the first female Egyptian mayor in the U.S., announces her plans to raise the Egyptian flag in honor of Egypt’s Independence Day.
The ceremony will take place on July 23,2023 at 2:00pm at Meyer Park 267 W. Briarcliff, Bolingbrook, IL marking a significant milestone in both local and international history.
Egypt’s Independence Day, celebrated annually on July 23rd, commemorates the country’s liberation from colonial rule and its journey towards self-governance.
In this spirit of freedom and unity, Mayor Alexander-Basta aims to bring together the community to acknowledge and celebrate Egypt’s rich culture and heritage.
As a dedicated public servant and a symbol of empowerment for women in leadership roles, Mayor Alexander-Basta’s historic appointment has already made waves both locally and nationally.
Born in Egypt, she migrated to the United States with her family at a young age and has since been dedicated to public service and community development. Her inspiring journey reflects the values of determination, resilience, and diversity that are celebrated in both Bolingbrook and Egypt.
Mayor Alexander-Basta expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, saying, “Raising the Egyptian flag in Bolingbrook is not just a celebration of Egypt’s independence, but a celebration of the diversity that enriches our community. I am honored to be the first female Egyptian mayor in the U.S. and to have the opportunity to showcase the vibrant culture of Egypt. This event is a testament to the strength of our community.”
The flag-raising ceremony is open to all residents of Bolingbrook and neighboring communities, as well as members of the media. The event aims to foster cultural understanding, strengthen community ties, and promote inclusivity within Bolingbrook.
