Online Book, White Flight and racism in Chicago in 1969
By Ray Hanania
The online book is called “Midnight Flight,” the story of racism in Chicago in the 1960s. The book is a memoir of living on Chicago’s Southeast Side in the 1960s and how realtors using racial fears forced White homeowners to seek their homes to churn profits by selling them to African Americans.
The more African Americans started to buy homes in 1969, the faster the homes sold and White homeowners fled.
This book is a look at the experience of White Flight from my perspective based on my experiences. Although my memory of the events may not be 100 percent accurate, I have tried my best to be as accurate as possible.
In a final Chapter, 13, I post the remembrances of others who have read the book and I encourage you to share your story by posting in the comment section of the final Chapter, 13.
