Orland Township Republicans should reject the “Not Really” Republicans on April 6

Orland Township Republican Committeewoman Elizabeth “Liz” Gorman slams Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau for endorsing controversial slate of fake Republicans in the April 6 election. The slate includes one candidate who had an outstanding  arrest warrant and another who claims to be a lawyer but has not yet been sworn in to the profession to practice law

There are self-declared Republicans running for Township Supervisor and Trustee on the ticket engineered by Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau. They are not running as Republicans and therefore are not endorsed by the Orland Township Republican Organization.

First, they tried to circumvent Illinois election law by filing as a Republican slate and they did it improperly. Their petitions were rejected because they did not follow the law, they did not involve the official Republican Organization which means you, as a Republican voter, didn’t have a say.

Second, their candidate selection and negative campaigning is a disgrace.

Many of you may have heard that Lora Kresczmer, trustee candidate, who was handpicked by Mayor Pekau and claiming to be Republican, had a warrant out for her arrest from a 2017 DUI charge that resulted in a major car accident. You can read the Patch article for details here

There is more. Another Pekau trustee candidate, William Keefer, was caught in a lie when he claimed to be a lawyer when in fact, he has not yet passed the bar exam.

Third, the Pekau mess continues when supervisor candidate Scott Kaspar, released a video with none other than convicted felon and disgraced former Democrat Governor, Rod Blagojevich. Claiming to be a “Trumpocrat,” Blago is not a cultural icon we want associated with Republicans. Sorry, its just not.

Blagojevich’s endorsement, along with unethical and criminal behavior of Keefer and Kresczmer respectively, is evidence this whole ticket is made up of political opportunists looking to use the Republican label.

We, the leaders of the Republican Party, and rank and file Republicans, must hold those who claim to be one of us to the high ideals of our party. If we do not, we are no better than those who oppose our party’s values. How can we denounce leftist politicians who behave the same way if we do not hold those who claim to be Republican to the same standard?

I am calling on Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau to publicly renounce his endorsement and call on Scott Kaspar, Lora Kresczmer, and Willam Keefer to drop out of the race.

For the future of our party, Orland Township Republicans must reject these faux Republicans.

Elizabeth “Liz” Gorman
