Fire closes El Famous Burrito in Summit
Blaze began in second-floor apartment

A fire broke out about 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in an apartment above El Famous Burrito at 6159 S. Archer Road in Summit.
The Summit Fire Department was at the scene within minutes. No injuries were reported.
“The Summit Fire Department arrived on the scene quickly,” Deputy Fire Chief Frank Batura said. “It took about 30 minutes for the fire to be controlled.”

A female resident of the apartment said the fire was caused by an electrical outlet. She said she was living there with her mother and three children. She worked at the restaurant.
“The fire is still under investigation,” Batura said and he would not speculate as to the exact cause.
There was extensive damage to ceiling separating El Famous and the upstairs apartment and the restaurant suffered extensive damage.
Batura said, “Most of that damage was caused by the water used to extinguish the fire.”
An email to El Famous for comment was not answered.
The restaurant chain has 12 locations.
