Hastings secures $250,000 grant for Easterseals Academy’s Tinley Park campus
During a visit to the Easterseals Academy Tinley Park campus, State Senator Michael E. Hastings announced the allocation of a $250,000 state grant to help fund critical roof repairs at the school, which serves children with autism and other disabilities.
“Easterseals Serving Chicagoland and Greater Rockford plays a vital role in the lives of children and families in our community,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort).
“These students deserve a safe, comfortable learning environment, and this grant is a step toward ensuring that happens. I’m proud to help deliver the resources needed to preserve and enhance the incredible work being done here every day.”
The funding, awarded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, will allow Easterseals Serving Chicagoland and Greater Rockford to address long-standing infrastructure needs and ensure the continued safety and functionality of its Tinley Park facility.
The Tinley Park campus is one of three campuses of ECR’s Easterseals Academy that collectively serve more than 300 students with an autism spectrum disorder or other disabilities. The Easterseals Academy schools provide educational and therapeutic services to children with autism, behavior disorders, developmental delays and disabilities. The roof has suffered significant weather-related wear and tear in recent years, prompting urgent calls for funding to support repairs.
Sara Ray Hallman, president and CEO of Easterseals joined Hastings during the visit and emphasized the importance of the state’s support.
“We are deeply grateful to Senator Hastings for his unwavering support of our mission and the families we serve,” said Hallman. “This grant is more than just a building improvement — it’s an investment in our students’ futures. With these funds, we can continue to provide a safe and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.”
Hastings, who has consistently advocated for early intervention and programs supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, said the grant is part of a broader effort to ensure facilities across the state are maintained and equipped to serve their communities effectively.
