Leving legal team reunites father and son after rescuing boy

By Laura Reichel

A distressed father in dire need turned to the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd. for emergency help, after discovering that his ex had disappeared with his son.

Dad had a twelve-year-old son with his child’s mother, who he was never married to but lived together for many years as a family here in Illinois. Dad was the primary caretaker and always maintained a loving relationship with his boy since birth. Suddenly, the mother packed her bags, pulled the boy out of school, disappeared with him and concealed their whereabouts from dad. Dad was fearful he would lose his son forever.

Chicago matrimonial attorney and Litigation Director Arthur Kallow of the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving Ltd. will talk about this important case on the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour, 9-10 a.m. CST Saturday, November 30th on Power 92.3 FM. This show segment will be available for download on the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour Spotify page on dadsrights.com

Dad was in for a painful surprise when his son’s school called, stating his son was a truant – the boy hadn’t been in school for weeks. In fact, dad eventually discovered the mother was on the move with him across the country to Virginia. Dad was completely in the dark. Fortunately, the boy secretly contacted and confided in dad that mom forbade him from reaching out to dad and stated clearly that he wanted to remain in Illinois, safe at home, with his loving father. Their unshakable bond was at risk of becoming permanently severed.

The Leving legal team filed an emergency petition for an order of protection. During the emergency order of protection hearing, they elicited testimony from the father, establishing paternity, and showed the court that an emergency existed. The judge agreed with the Leving legal team and ruled in their favor, finding that the mother was indeed on the run, concealing the boy and attempting to move to Virginia. They won.

But before the father-son reunion could take place, the mother booked the first flight out of state with the boy. The Leving legal team did not give up. They contacted law enforcement and arranged dad’s flight out of state. Dad flew to Virginia, and with law enforcement’s help, he went to the temporary location where he assumed his son was allegedly concealed, knocked on the door, and to his relief, his boy ran into dad’s arms.

Virginia law enforcement served the boy’s mother the order of protection, and now dad and son are back home, resuming their life together.

This complex victory, modified for broadcast, is one where failure was not an option. The Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving, Ltd. has a huge responsibility to their clients to fight for them. They had to work quickly to prove to the court that the boy was in danger and that it was in his best interest to be returned to his father before disappearing forever. They did just that.

Attorney and Litigation Director Arthur S. Kallow

Attorney Arthur S. Kallow was honored for his valuable contribution to the Domestic Relations Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County as a court facilitator. He is also the recipient of the 2024 International Abduction Prevention Award.
