Offender charged in attempted Armed Robbery in Orland Park gas station assault

On September 15, 2026, at approximately 9 a.m., the Orland Park Police Department responded to the Shell gas station, at 15100 Harlem Ave., after receiving 911 calls reporting gunshots fired in the parking lot.

As officers and investigators responded to the scene, a witness called 911 to report a male subject in the area of 15100 73rd Ave. who had suffered a gunshot wound to the cheek.

The subject was identified as Christopher Brown of Michigan City, Indiana.

The Orland Fire Protection District was immediately dispatched to that location to begin treatment.

Law enforcement personnel responded to both locations, interviewed witnesses and reviewed security camera footage from the Shell gas station and surrounding area. Within minutes of the initial 911 call, officers and investigators determined that all persons involved in the shooting had been located and that there was no further threat to the public.

After reviewing security camera footage and conducting preliminary interviews, investigators confirmed that a male individual was pumping gas into his vehicle when Brown, who was fully masked, approached and pointed a firearm at him, demanding property of the individual. The individual, an Illinois Concealed Carry License holder, discharged his firearm, striking Brown once in the cheek. Brown ran in a southwestern direction from the parking lot, ultimately stopping in the parking lot where officers found him. The individual who fired the handgun was not injured.

Investigators learned that the vehicle Brown drove to the gas station and the firearm he possessed were both reported stolen from Michigan City, Indiana.

The Orland Fire Protection District transported Brown by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, where he remains in stable condition. Brown has remained under officers’ guard since the incident.

Investigators conducted more extensive interviews with parties involved, as well as numerous witnesses. When the investigation concluded, investigators presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved the following charges:

·       Attempted Armed Robbery (Class 1 Felony)

·       Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony)

·       Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Class 2 Felony)

·       Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon- Under 21 (Class 4 Felony)

·       Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon- No FOID card/No Conceal Carry License (Class 4 Felony)

Arrested:

Christopher Brown

(Male/ 20 years old)

200 block of  Jackson St.

Michigan City, Indiana
