Dan Calandriello Calls for County Leadership to Address Public Safety

Candidate Calandriello has the actual experience as a former Prosecutor to protect our families

With recent dialogue regarding public safety and the SAFE-T Act, Cook County Board of Commissioner candidate Dan Calandriello calls on the Cook County Board to take steps to address Public Safety in a serious way focusing on investments in technology, training, and staffing.

Calandriello wants to ensure that all police departments are collaborating to protect our communities, investing in mental health programs, and seriously addressing illegal gun possessions.

As Commissioner, Calandriello will use his experiences as a former Prosecutor to enact positive policies to keep residents of the 17th District safe.

As a Trustee in Orland Park, Dan consistently voted to fully fund the Orland Park Police Department.

“During his time as Trustee, Dan Calandriello was the biggest supporter of the Orland Park Police Department.  Dan always asked if the police department needed more funding during the budget process and always delivered for law enforcement.   Being a former Prosecutor, he stands with law enforcement and knows how to protect our families.  Anyone saying otherwise is just wrong,” Retired Police Chief Timothy McCarthy comments on Calandriello’s record on Public Safety.

Calandriello joins Republican and Democratic leaders calling on changes in the SAFE-T Act.  He demands the legislature to make changes and clean up all the ambiguities in the Act to protect our families from violent crimes.

Calandriello states, “I stand with law enforcement and my record as Village Trustee shows it.  I appreciate the support from Former Police Chief Timothy McCarthy.  We worked together in Orland Park making sure the police department got the funding it needed.  If anyone says differently, they are not being honest.  Period.”

Calandriello voted for many resolutions supporting the police including a “Resolution Supporting Law Enforcement Agencies and Their Members Who Serve Our Communities” (Ordinance 2021-0058) which opposed “efforts to defund or abolish police departments.”  Additionally, Calandriello voted for a “Resolution in Support of the Village of Orland Park Police Department” (2020-0432) which highlighted Orland Park’s lowest violent crime rate for towns with a population over 50,000 and the village’s stance on “properly fund[ing] the police department for training, hiring, equipment and technology.”

Calandriello’s priorities as Commissioner will be improving public safety by providing the resources for law enforcement to reduce violent crimes including carjackings, organized theft and illegal gun possessions; guaranteeing access to mental health services to address the growing mental health crisis; and promoting our local economy with market-based incentives for businesses to create good jobs in Cook County.

Calandriello is a former Prosecutor and Village of Orland Park Trustee.  He currently runs a law practice in Palos Hills and is the Treasurer of the Southwest Suburban Bar Association. Calandriello resides in Orland Park with his wife and three small children.
