Fatherhood symposium set for Oct. 1 in Joliet
The Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood, a state board established in 2004 to promote paternal involvement in the upbringing of their children, will present its 2022 annual symposium on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1:30 p.m. at the Joliet Public Library, 150 N. Ottawa St., Joliet.
The event is free and open to the public.
The lineup of speakers will include Will County Family Court Judge Jessica Colon-Sayre; Doug Kasper of Non-Violent Cities Project—Joliet; Deonte Moore, a young man with a powerful personal story about his father and father figure; Maureen A. Gorman, president of the Fatherhood Educational Institute; Imam Charles Muhammad of Al-Aqsa Community Center, and ICRF Chairman Jeffery M. Leving.
There also will be an award presentation for an Outstanding Illinois Father.
“This symposium each year puts the focus on the important work we do to support and promote fathers, whose value in raising children cannot be overestimated,” Chairman Leving says.
The intended audience is social workers, child welfare workers, family counselors, lawyers involved in matrimonial and family law, educators, politicians and policy makers, clergy, academics, child development experts, juvenile justice workers and interested members of the general public.
