Nichols and colleagues collect bottled water for Jackson residents

State Rep. Cyril Nicholas, State Sen. Elect Willie Preston, and 18th Ward Alderman Derrick Curtis collected thousands of bottles of water, enough to fill two 18-wheel semi-trucks to help the water-starved residents of Jackson, Mississippi.

Nichols, whose 32nd House District includes the 6th Ward, 15th Ward, 16th Ward, 17th Ward and parts of Burbank, Justice, Bridgeview and Hickory Hills, said that the public came out in force to help the people of Jackson.

The donation was held on Saturday, Sept. 3 from 6 am until 6 PM at Transformation Church located at 7711 S. Kedzie in Chicago. Nichols said many people showed up donating cases of bottled water.

“We collected enough to fill two 18-wheel semi-trucks and we are on our way to deliver the donated water to the needy residents of Jackson,” Nichols said.

“I am so proud of those who took the time to drop off cases of bottled water for this emergency drive. No matter what race we belong to. no matter what religion we practice. Nobody should ever have to live without water.”

Nichols said that the a semi-truck will deliver the bottled water to New Horizon Ministry, 1750 Elis Avenue, Suite 200, in Jackson with water being distributed to other needy locations.

Nichols will travel with the bottled water hopefully to meet Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba or the mayoral staff and State Rep. Ronnie Crudup, Jr.

“We have to do what we can help people in need when we can no matter where they are. If we can help the people of Jackson, it shows we can also help ourselves and overcome many challenges the people in our region face,” Nichols said.

Nichols thanked Preston and Curtis for all of their help and support saying it couldn’t have been done with their support. He also thanked Father Larry of St. Agatha church for supporting the drive.
