Dad, boys together again after long, difficult separation

A father broke up with the mother of his children, and she wasn’t allowing him to see them. He was pushed out of their lives.

The children are boys, ages 4 and 2. If Dad did nothing, he probably would never see his boys again. He was distraught, because he had done nothing wrong, and these were his kids too – so he took action.

“He called me and asked for help,” says attorney Jeffery M. Leving, founder and president of the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving Ltd. in Chicago.

Leving will talk about the case on his weekly radio program, the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour, 9-10 a.m. CST Saturday, Feb. 26 on Power 92.3 FM in Chicago.

“This was a tougher case than it should have been,” Leving says.

“The mother was uncooperative and fought all our efforts to gain parenting time for Dad. My legal team faced a challenging hearing, but with the powerful presentation of witnesses and other evidence supporting the father, we convinced the judge that dad should have an equal amount of parenting time. We won. The judge granted Dad 50-50 parenting time. Thanks to our strategic planning, persistence, and persuasive courtroom litigation skills, these little boys and their dad, who were kept apart for far too long, were joyfully reunited.”

This was an important victory, modified for broadcast, to reunite Dad and his sons. “If Dad had not come to us, it is very likely he would never have seen his sons again,” Leving says. “The mother had alienated the children before we were retained to represent Dad. Without our work, these little boys may have grown up not knowing their dad at all. Dad is thrilled to have his sons back in his life, knowing he’ll be raising them at his home in Illinois.”

Leving says it is this very type of case that prompted him to begin his journey and advocacy for Fathers’ Rights 40 years ago – the assumption that when there’s a breakup, the mother gets to keep the kids, and she decides how much, when and where dad can see them, if at all. “This is wrong! Fathers are parents too, and they have rights. Even if a man breaks up with his children’s mother, that doesn’t mean he has to break up with his kids. I can’t stress enough to men who are in this situation: You don’t have to stand for it! This father took action, and now he has equal parenting – court-ordered. I am proud to have fought for him,” Leving says.

Jeffery M. Leving is founder and president of the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving Ltd., and is a strong advocate. He is the author of Fathers’ Rights, Divorce Wars and How to be a Good Divorced Dad, the latter of which was endorsed by President Obama and by Cardinal Francis E. George, then the archbishop of Chicago. To learn more about Leving and his latest court victories, follow him on Twitter and Facebook, and view his videos on You Tube.
