Stagg High school students raise funds for Illinois USO

Students at Stagg High school in Palos Heights helped to raise funds to benefit Illinois USO

Each year the Stagg High School Basketball programs raise funds through its Hoops for Hope free throw competition where individuals sponsor players for each free throw out of 100 attempts.

In the past our team has raised funds for the American Cancer Society, Shriners Children’s Hospital, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Hoops for Heroes a nonprofit Veterans group, Coaches vs. Cancer, the Jason Foundation a nonprofit focused on preventing teen suicide, The HERO Foundation a local organization that educates the youth on drug addiction, and the Broyle’s Foundation a nonprofit Alzheimer’s organization.

This year, the team selected the Illinois USO as the recipient of the money raised.  The teams, with the help of the Andrew Girls Basketball team and the Stagg Charger Nation, collected $3533 during their free throw drive in the name of all of our Stagg alumni and family members of Stagg staff who are serving or have served in the armed services.

Donations and support from across the nation have allowed the USO to support our men and women of the military.  The mission of the USO is to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.

The USO of Illinois provides support to nearly 325,000 Active Duty, Guard and Reserve military members and their families ever year with five USO Centers and hundreds of programs. They rely on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support our Centers and activities. The monies raised from the Stagg High School’s activities will support their important work.
