Hastings secures $1.6 million grant for multi-use path in Frankfort

State Senator Michael E. Hastings announced today that his advocacy efforts have led to the successful award of a $1.6 million grant to fund the construction of a new multi-use path in the Village of Frankfort.

The grant was awarded under the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“This investment is a win for the Village of Frankfort and for families across our region,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort).

“Safe, accessible infrastructure is key to building stronger, healthier communities. I’m proud to have helped secure this funding and to see this long-awaited project moving forward.”

The project will construct a 1.5-mile, 10-foot wide multi-use path that enhances safety, accessibility and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists in the Frankfort area. The path will begin at Pfeiffer Road and Sauk Trail, extend south along the east side of Pfeiffer Road for half a mile to Laraway Road, and continue east along the north side of Laraway Road for one mile to 80th Avenue.

In addition to creating a safer and more environmentally friendly transportation option, the new path will also improve accessibility to one of the most historic trails in Illinois — the Old Plank Road Trail — further enhancing recreational and commuter opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

“We are thrilled to receive this $1.6 million ITEP grant to help make the Pfeiffer Road Recreation Trail a reality,” said Frankfort Mayor Keith Ogle. “This project has been a long-standing priority for the Village, and it will greatly enhance pedestrian and bicycle access for our residents. I want to thank Senator Hastings for his continued support and advocacy in helping us secure this important funding.”

The grant is part of IDOT’s commitment to improving non-motorized transportation options and supporting local infrastructure development across Illinois.
