Substance abuse in child custody cases to be topic of CLE at Leving firm
The Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving Ltd. will host the next presentation of the Arthur S. Kallow Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Seminar Series on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. CST at 19 S. LaSalle St. in Chicago.
This month’s presentation will be “Investigating Substance Abuse Issues in Child Custody Cases.”
Attorney Jeffery M. Leving, founder and president of the firm, will facilitate the seminar. He says if an adverse party in custody litigation has a substance abuse problem, it may potentially place a child at risk.
“We are often called upon to protect children from adverse parties who may have a drug or alcohol problem,” he says.
“If it’s a drug problem, there can be illegal behavior going on in the home, up to and including the presence of illegal weapons. If it’s alcohol, the parent may be driving drunk with the child in the car. These are dangerous situations, and the fathers we represent depend on us to discover and verify the facts, bring them to the attention of the court, and win a court order that removes the child from danger. These dads want to safeguard their children from harm.”
The presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
The Kallow CLE Seminar Series, which began in 2014, provides legal education to family law attorneys and other professionals looking to expand their legal knowledge. CLE credit will be awarded.
Please make reservations by emailing Jennifer Whiteside (jwhiteside@levinglaw.com), as this program is close to its capacity.
