Dad keeps sons at home with him, gains child support
By Laura Reichel
A father who was raising his two boys, ages 15 and 13, alone suddenly found himself at risk of losing them. The mother was never much involved in the boys’ lives. According to court records, she moved from place to place and was out of state in recent years, and parenting was being done entirely by Dad. Reportedly, he was doing an excellent job.
This complex case will be discussed on the weekly radio show, the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour, 9-10 a.m. CDT Saturday, June 22nd on Power 92.3 FM. The radio show will be available for download on the Dads’ Rights Legal Hour Spotify page on dadsrights.com.
According to court records, the mother moved back to Illinois, hired a lawyer, and pressed for joint decision-making authority. Dad was alarmed by this: He reported that he had been raising the boys by himself for almost their entire lives, things were going well, the mother was scarcely heard from, and now she wants decision-making authority. A lot could go wrong, Dad feared – so he contacted the Law Offices of Jeffery M. Leving Ltd. to assert HIS rights and to protect his children. The Leving team assured Dad that he had come to the right place and fiercely litigated this father’s case.
The Leving legal team immediately went to court and argued that it was in the best interest of the boys that Dad keeps all parental decision-making authority regarding the boys’ education, extracurricular activities, medical and dental care, and religious upbringing, and that the boys live with Dad. The judge agreed with the Leving team. The team won!
There was another piece to the victory, too: the Leving legal team raised the issue of child support, telling the judge that the mother should pay child support – which she never had paid before. The judge agreed and ordered the mother to pay Dad child support.
This important court victory, modified for broadcast, kept the teenage boys living with their father, kept Dad in charge of decision-making, and gained this father a monthly child support payment from the mother to help him with expenses for the children.
“Dad is pleased with this victory, and I’m happy that we achieved it for him,” said Attorney Jeffery M. Leving.
