If there is one thing that you can say about the imagination of Hollywood movie makers, especially in fiction, it usually grabs hold of some hoped for reality or future vision by American society, a vision that has a way of becoming a reality.
Movies give you a real sense of what could actually happen in the near or distant future. The movie ideas we enjoy in Hollywood that begin as “fiction” and “imagination” often come from the direction of the development of reality. In other words, our fictions becomes reality.
And nothing is more predictive of our future than the growing hatred brewing in American politics today which divides Americans, a predictive trend driven by a growing hatred of the mainstream news and entertainment media against former President Donald Trump.
We see it in the pages of newspapers that have abandoned professionalism and ethics to become political platforms for partisan political spin and lies. We see it in the daytime and late night TV and cable talkshows. And, we are seeing it in the production of Hollywood movies, which usually reflect a leftist spin on politics and often provide a hoped-for reality to come.
The new movie by producer/director Alex Garland, “Civil War,” starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura,, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonova Mizuno, Nick Offerman and Jesse Plemons is simply the latest, although more subtle, personal attack against Former President Trump that goes far beyond simply hating Trump to embedding a death wish that the movie justifies.
