Bolingbrook Town Center Mosaic Ribbon Cutting Scheduled June 7

The public is invited to the official ribbon cutting and celebration of the new mosaic at Town Center entitled “A Reflection of Bolingbrook” on June 7  at 6:45 PM

The Village of Bolingbrook and the Bolingbrook Arts Council would like to welcome the public to the official ribbon cutting and celebration of its new mosaic at Town Center, entitled “A Reflection of Bolingbrook.”

The event will take place in front of the mosaic on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 6:45pm and will immediately be followed by a Wednesday Night Summer Concert, at the Roger C. Claar Performing Arts Center behind the mosaic.

Refreshments and activities will be available at the ribbon-cutting, and the Concessions Stand will be open for the concert.

The Bolingbrook Town Center and Performing Arts Center are located at 375 W. Briarcliff Rd.

The inspiration behind the design was the Bolingbrook flag and the community’s welcoming nature. Found throughout the mosaic are mirrored words of “Welcome” in different languages, a feature that reflects the diversity and inclusivity found within the community.

This “Welcome Wall” is now the entryway to the community space used for arts and entertainment as well as community events held behind Village Hall.

“Bolingbrook celebrates its diversity and we hope all residents and visitors will feel welcomed by this beautiful art piece and our community,” says Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta.

Over 200 community members had a part in creating the Bolingbrook art piece. “During the week-long Mosaic Community Days, hundreds of our local residents and community members helped place each piece of tile that together created this wall. It is a true community work of art,” says Mithra Zaucha, chair of the Bolingbrook Arts Council.

The mosaic was made possible with the support of the Village of Bolingbrook, Mayor Alexander-Basta and the Board of Trustees, in cooperation with a grant by the National Endowment for the Arts.

The mosaic was designed by Arts Council Commissioners Mithra Zaucha, Allaina Humphreys, and Jose Rojas, and implemented by Green Star Movement and over 200 community members.

The Bolingbrook Arts Commission assists the Mayor and Board of Trustees in the development and implementation of projects that enhance the artistic and cultural aesthetics of the Village of Bolingbrook. Since its inception, the Arts Commission has provided opportunities for local artists and arts organizations to showcase their work in an effort to create a culture that embraces and financially supports working artists and artist groups.

Past initiatives include pop up galleries, public art displays, live concerts, training programs, and accessible community art projects.
