A changing of the guard took place at the most recent meeting of the Lyons School District 103 board.
Three members bid adieu and three newly elected members were sworn in.
Marge Hubacek, Sharon Anderson and Shannon Johnson are the now former members of the board. Hubacek did not attend the brief five-minute meeting.
Board President Jorge Torres thanked Johnson and Anderson for their service and presented each with a plaque.
“Great people,” Torres said later. “They served, used their time to come here and do their best.”
Slagjana Aleksijk, Sara Andreas and Mario Ramirez were sworn in by board secretary Char Latronica.
Aleksikj noted that there’s plenty to learn being on the school board – “go with the flow,” she said – and that she is excited to serve the community.

Andreas, 24, grew up in Cicero. She bought a home in Lyons two years ago. She has served on the public library board.
“I’m very excited to serve the school board and excited to be a young woman in this position,” Andreas said. “There’s a lot of opportunity to make some good changes.”
She wanted to be on the school board because she majored in political science at Colorado State University.
“I’m hoping to use some of the value of my degree to serve the community.” Andrea said.
Ramirez said his first meeting “went well.”
“I’m really excited,” he said. “I’m pleased to be on the board.”
The new board was organized by office.
Torres remains the board president, Winifred Rodriguez is the vice-president, and Andreas is the board secretary.
