Woman legislators join in endorsing Marie Newman for Congress

Chicago’s Top Progressive Female Legislators Back Marie Newman for Congress. Newman Kicks Off the ‘Year of The Woman’ With Support from Chicago’s Powerhouse Female Legislators

This week, nine of the top female legislators in the Chicago area joined together to endorse Marie Newman in her bid to unseat anti-choice and out-of-touch incumbent, Rep. Dan Lipinski. The list of women leaders endorsing marie include: State Senator Toi Hutchinson, State Senator Heather Steans, State Representative Theresa Mah, State Representative Sara Feigenholtz, State Representative Ann Williams, State Representative Laura Fine, Commissioner Jackie Traynere, Committeewoman Stephanie Coleman and Committeewoman Lucy Moog.

“After a weekend celebrating one year of incredible change and momentum at the hands of women, I could not be more honored to have the support of this coalition of strong female leaders,” said Marie Newman. “As we continue to battle the constant attacks on our basic rights, women and families deserve a true champion who will stand up to the bullies in Congress and the White House every single day, and that begins with taking back the Third from politicians like Dan Lipinski who seek to erode our basic rights and freedoms.

“I am thrilled to announce my endorsement of Marie Newman for Congress. Marie is the forward-thinking, strong, and collaborative leader that the Third District has been needing,” said Sen. Toi Hutchinson. “She will work hard to protect and advance the rights of workers, women, immigrants, and our LGBTQ brothers and sisters and continue the fight to secure healthcare for all.”

“I believe Marie is the kind of partner that my constituents need and I look forward to helping get her elected to Congress,” said State Rep. Theresa Mah.

“Marie is a grassroots activist and will be an excellent voice in tune with the community,” said Commissioner Jackie Traynere.

“We need a partner in Congress as we fight against Trump’s anti-woman, anti-choice agenda…not someone who has been complicit in efforts to restrict healthcare choices from women,” said Rep. Ann Williams.

Newman’s campaign has been recognized nationally as one of the top races to watch in 2018 as she takes on anti-choice incumbent Rep. Dan Lipinski. Newman’s progressive momentum has gained her endorsements from top progressive voices across the map, including NARAL Pro-Choice America, the Human Rights Campaign, MoveOn.org, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Reps Jan Schakowsky and Luis Gutierréz, Gloria Steinem, Hispanic American Labor Council, Reclaim Chicago, National Nurses United, and a slew of other top individuals and organizations.
