Illinois Republicans slam crime challenges in Chicago and region

Illinois faces a growing public safety crisis, and nowhere is it more evident than in Chicago. While Washington, D.C. has seen progress under President Donald J. Trump’s crime initiative—leading to hundreds of illegal firearm arrests and thousands overall—our own state leadership refuses to take decisive action.

Governor JB Pritzker’s recent national TV appearances highlighted this failure. Asked about violence in Chicago, he claimed “Chicago is fine.”

That comment came just after a Labor Day weekend in which more than 50 people were shot and eight killed.

For families across the city, violence is not an exception—it is an everyday reality. Yet instead of acknowledging the pain communities endure, the Governor dismisses it.

On redistricting, Pritzker has defended Illinois’ gerrymandered maps—ranked among the nation’s most partisan—and even hinted at redrawing them again. These maps suppress competition, protect incumbents, and silence voters. It is a strategy to consolidate power, not strengthen democracy.

While Springfield dodges responsibility, President Trump has taken action. Democrats seem more outraged by his determination to fight crime than by the violence devastating our neighborhoods.

The numbers tell the story:

  • For 13 consecutive years, Chicago has had the most murders of any U.S. city
  • In 2024, Chicago’s murder rate per capita was three times higher than Los Angeles and nearly five times higher than New York City. That’s more than double the murder rate in Islamabad and nearly 15 times more than Delhi
  • Out of Chicago’s 147,899 reported crimes since January 1, arrests have been made in just 16.2% of them
  • More illegal guns are recovered in Chicago than in New York City and Los Angeles combined
  • The number of reported motor vehicle thefts last year was more than double the number in 2021

These aren’t just statistics—they represent lives cut short and communities left vulnerable by failed  Democrat leadership.

The choice is clear: Democrats excuse lawlessness, while President Trump and Republicans stand with law enforcement and families. Crime is not destiny; it is the product of choices. Illinois needs leaders who choose safety, accountability, and fairness over spin and self-interest.

Together, we will press forward for safer streets, stronger families, and a brighter future for our state.
