Hastings: $123 million in IDOT projects will improve South Suburban roads through collaboration with local leaders
State Senator Michael E. Hastings secured over $123 million to build and repair infrastructure in the South Suburbs.
“Our transportation system is how families get to work, students get to school and businesses connect with customers,” said Hastings (D-Frankfort).
“These investments show what is possible when state and local leaders work together to help residents and strengthen our communities.”
The largest multi-year program to build and repair infrastructure in state history will invest $50.6 billion over six years, continuing an unprecedented investment in safety, mobility and quality of life made possible by the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program.
The Illinois Department of Transportation’s new multi-year program is both comprehensive and multimodal, with investments in roads and bridges, aviation, transit, freight and passenger rail, waterways, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations touching every Illinois county.
As part of IDOT’s latest Multi-Year Plan under Rebuild Illinois, the district Hastings represents will see infrastructure projects totaling more than $123 million next year.
Hastings emphasized that collaboration with mayors and village leaders was key to advancing local priorities.
“Local leaders know where the needs are greatest, and by working with them we can make sure these projects reflect the priorities of the people who live here,” said Hastings. “Together, we are building safer roads, reducing congestion, and modernizing infrastructure to support families and businesses across the South Suburbs.”
