“The Dinner Detective” is an audience-interactive phenomenal entertainment option

If you are looking for entertainment that is unusual, fun, and immersive, The Dinner Detective is a perfect choice to enjoy. Dinner, a murder mystery, and audience involvement, it offers everything. Check it out at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lisle Naperville

By Ray Hanania

A movie star dies, and an investor,  suspected of stealing money, is found murdered.

And it all happened in a ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Lisle-Naperville, 1400 Corporetum Drive, in Lisle, Illinois, before an audience of 100 people who were enjoying a great meal.

That’s the atmosphere of “The Dinner Detective,” a live show in which actors walk you through a complex series of clues to identify the killer and solve the crime.

I enjoyed the performance and the dinner this past weekend, for my birthday. It was phenomenal. The actors were great. The plot unwinds before your eyes and the appetite of the audience, slowly and with compelling with fascination.

I can’t tell you more about the murder, the accomplices, and who the killer was. But it was solved and I had a great time wth friends and family trying to figure it all out.

If you are looking for an adult family fun experience, “The Dinner Detective” is it. Teenagers are welcome with adult supervision.

“At The Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Dinner Show, you’ll tackle a challenging crime while you feast on a fantastic dinner. Just beware! The criminal is lurking somewhere in the room, and you may find yourself as a Prime Suspect before you know it!”

Yes, you could be a suspect.

“The Dinner Detective” hosts interact with guests between courses. Ok. It’s only three servings. A salad, followed by the main meal — chicken, pork, or vegetarian (pasta and vegetables) with mashed potatoes and green beans — plus a great dessert. I don’t know if the menu changes each performance, but the one I had was satisfying in the atmosphere of a real Columbo-style investigation in which you participate as a detective.

Every audience member gets a sheet to write down clues, with evidence provided digitally through your cell phone or made available on a large board to examine firsthand.

You’ll meet a lot of people. Who’s in the performance and who is not is something you’ll have to figure out for yourself as clues are dropped and discussed. Audience and actors are interrogated by the detectives, and you’ll go from one suspect to another until, after the two-hour show ends, it all becomes clear.

The mystery was well constructed, and it was a fascinating story that slowly emerged during the performance.

The show narration is filled with humor. You will laugh, unless, of course, you are the killer.

It’s a killer show, a killer meal, a killer performance, and a killer show that you won’t want to miss.

Tickets are $71 each, including the meal. Coffee and water are provided with the meals. Alcoholic drinks are in you, available for additional purchase in the hotel bar in the nearby lobby.

You can take pictures but not video. But I don’t want to show many because I don’t want to ID all of the performers. But remember, the killer can be anyone.

“The Dinner Detective” troupe takes the show on the road, and you can book them for your own personal party.

I highly recommend it. It is very creative, entertaining, and worth every penny and your time.
