State Rep Nichols honored with Juneteenth award from business leadership
State Representative Cyril Nichols (D-32nd) was honored Wednesday June 19th, 2024 with the “Joe Biden Life Time Achievement” Award from the Southland Black Business Chamber of Commerce at their annual Chicago Southland Black Chamber (CSBCC) Juneteenth Gala & Awards Ceremony.
The award is presented to individuals that stand up for the businesses in the community.
“I am honored for the attention more than rhe accolades,” said Nichols who was one of the most popular legislators on the Southwest and West Sides of Chicago.
“I have always dedicated myself to helping the people of this region.”
The event was held at the DoubleTree Hilton Alsip, Illinois
The mission of CSBCC and Industry is to facilitate the creation, growth, and sustainability of Black businesses throughout the Southland and Illinois regions while fostering economic growth and development within our communities. CSBCC provides their members with a networking environment for all business types and advocates on behalf of businesses at the local and state levels.
The Greater Chicagoland Black Chamber of Commerce consists of member businesses and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic and commercial progress of our community.
Also honored among the many leaders recognized was South Suburban College (SSC) President, Dr. Lynette Stokes who was chosen as a recipient of the Excellence in College Administration Award by the CSBCC.
Among the many sponsors was Mayor Mary Basta of Bolingbrook.
Nichols was celebrated also by Arab and Muslim Americans in the Southwest and West suburbs for his honesty and for his support of the community.
Representative Cyril L. Nichols was born and raised in Chicago; Attended Wells High School in Chicago, Colby College in Kansas, and Columbia College in Chicago; Worked for the Cabrini Green community-based organization Community Youth Creative Learning Experience (CYCLE), Chicago Park District, Chicago Youth Centers, YMCA, Cunningham Children’s Home in Champaign-Urbana, Benedictine University, the University of St. Francis, as well as City Colleges of Chicago; created the Ashburn Family Youth Center; Proud husband and father.
In true public service, Nichols chose to retire as a legislator having served two terms, to pursue his continued public service. Nichols serves in the legislature until January 2025.
