Chicago men charged after armed robbery attempt at Tinley Park Jewel/Osco
Two Chicago men were charged Wednesday with attempted armed robbery after trying to rob a 72-year-old woman at gunpoint shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Jewel, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., Tinley Park.
Police said Jarrell Shaw, 32, of the 8000 block of South Maryland Ave., was driving a blue Chevy Malibu with Sean Williams, 33, of the 7500 block of South Shore Drive, when they spotted the woman getting into her vehicle in the Jewel parking lot and stopped near her.
Williams then exited the Malibu and approached the woman with a handgun, demanding she give him her valuables.
After a short struggle, Williams gave up and fled back to the Malibu, and he and Shaw left the area.
Responding Tinley Park detectives were able to get the license plate number of the Malibu using the Village’s License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera system, and then ran the number to get the owner’s home address in Harvey, where they found the vehicle unoccupied.
They waited for Shaw and Williams to exit the home and leave in the vehicle before conducting a traffic stop and finding the handgun inside the car.
Police then took Shaw and Willaims into custody.
Shaw and Williams will be in bond court the morning of Dec. 7 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
