Nursing Moms Support Group to Celebrate Halloween with Baby Costume Contest at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital

Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital’s Nursing Mom’s Network is giving new moms who might be stuck at home this Halloween the chance to dress up with their babies and step out of the house at a Halloween party on October 31.

The event will take place from 10:30 am to noon at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital. Moms will vote for their favorite costumes, eat Halloween treats, and meet other moms in the support group.

The weekly breastfeeding support classes provide new moms with the space they need to have their questions answered about all things related to breastfeeding.

“We see first time moms and veteran moms with their babies, most often in the early postpartum stage before they return to work,” said Kelly O’Meara, MA, RN-C, perinatal educator at Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital. “We let them lead each session and address their specific needs, tracking progress every week.”

According to O’Meara, mom’s come to the group when they experience a variety of common breastfeeding struggles, including latching, switching from pump to breast or breast to bottle, and sleep cycles and feeding.

“Breastfeeding isn’t always easy, and experiencing difficulties doesn’t make someone a bad mom,” said O’Meara. “We work one on one with moms to address their needs, and bring them together in the group to build a sense of community and show them that they aren’t alone in this journey.”

Northwestern Medicine is anchored by Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the only Illinois hospital on the national Honor Roll for 12 straight years as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, 2023 – 2024.
