Dan McLaughlin Statement on Failed Orland Park Mask Mandate
Monday night (Dec. 23, 2020), the Village Board voted down a mask mandate despite overwhelming support by Orland Park citizens on both sides of the aisle. This vote is an insult to all the nurses, doctors, and medical staff who have been hard at work treating COVID-19 for months.
What’s more, it is yet another example of the current village administration disregarding the people’s voice and acting out of spite, defensiveness, and petty politics. Orland Park deserves better.
It is the Mayor’s job to protect public safety, and as Mayor, I pledge to listen to the vast majority of Orland Park citizens who have voiced their support for simple policies that slow the spread of COVID-19. In addition, I will work tirelessly in collaboration with officials to expand access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Small businesses and everyday peo
ple have been hurt enough. It’s time to listen to the people, not ignore them. As Mayor, that’s exactly what I’ll do.
